Applied for and granted funding by South West Regional Development Agency for compilation of a skills audit in collaboration with Teignmouth, on a similar basis. Match funding and support from Teignbridge District Council. December 2006
South West Regional Development Agency offered to part fund the appointment of consultants to prepare a Town Centre Plan, to respond to a number of priority issues. Work commenced on a Brief in March 2006, leading to grant of funding in December and tender invitations to a select list in January 2007. Appointment of yellow book ltd made in March 2007. Match funding by Devon County Council and Teignbridge District Council.
Completed the Brunel Trail with 85% funding from Heritage Lottery Fund. History boards placed at six locations along the South Devon Coast Path between Lea Mount and Dawlish Warren. Opened by Deputy Mayor, Cllr Rosalind Prowse and Sam Hunt, Heritage Lottery Fund regional committee on 24 March 2007.
£41,000 granted by the Learning and Skills Council/Devon County Council for skills audit projects (to be shared between Dawlish and Teignmouth), September 2007, including £18,000 towards addressing worklessness issues, £18,000 towards projects benefiting young people (in conjunction with the colleges) and £5,000 towards business brokerages and project 7, below.
Devon Tourism and Skills Network offered £10,000 funding towards working with local businesses to identify and improve the "Customer experience" in Teignmouth and Dawlish with a series of workshops and free customer service courses.
Dawlish Community College has worked closely with DCT to offer courses to local businesses and the wider community using funds acquired with its specialist technology status, in food hygiene and a variety of IT qualifications. Other free courses arising from the results of the Skills' Audit are being offered in Dawlish to local businesses by Talk Training.
Three trustees - Cllr Wally Protheroe, Richard Boutle and John Robberts – and the Skills and Economy Officer, Suzy Wright, form the Dawlish Community College Steering Committee towards the acquisition of Specialist Technology status.
